Dance with One Heart this Sunday!

This Sunday, December 20th, we’ll be hosting a benefit class led by Nia teacher Sandra Caldwell at Jena’s normal class time, 9:30am.

The benefit’s proceeds will go to help Joyce Stahmer, Sandra’s dear friend (and a fellow Nia dancer!) who is suffering from lymphatic cancer, and the Lymphatic Education and Resource Network (LE&RN). Here’s a description of the event from Sandra:

I will present my original choreography using Nia’s 52 Moves energized by Nia’s movement forms to the Reggae music of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Stevie Wonder (yes, Stevie), Michael Franti and more.  This Sunday we will dance the shorter version for the one time slot.

This routine is called ONE HEART and the focus is steps and stances and the intent is to connect with the base of the body and find the support the base gives while making the connection to the support the community provides the individual member. As a portion of the funds raised through this endeavor will go to support a dear friend and Nia dancer, Joyce, in Florida while she battles a rare form of uterine cancer in hopes to return to the love of her life in the Jamaican countryside
The other portion of the proceeds will go to the Lymphatic Education and Research Network (LE&RN). An nonprofit organization helping people living with compromised lymphatic systems and doing research to find a cure.

The moves of this routine are fun, simple  and repetitive enough to get your groove on!

I hope you can join us. As you may know this is a major transition time for Nia in this space and you may not know that it is a sort of full circle for me in that the first time I took a dance workshop after my White Belt was In this space with Jena to learn Oremi….now I will offer up my gift to the space with Jena and hopefully as many of you as possible. And BTW , this also lands on my Birthday! So join us for some socializing after class.

We hope that you can make it for this special event, and we’ll see you on Sunday!

Note for those with balance on their class cards: as previously posted, the Dance Space has canceled all classes as of Dec 20th, 8pm. If you would like, we can donate the balance of your class card to Sandra’s benefit–just let us know that you’d like to do so, and we’ll take care of the details!  Many thanks! — Jena & Eron.
